Xhemajl Rexha, Head of the AJK, said that 2024 has been a difficult and challenging year for journalists in Kosovo.
“On behalf of AJK, I would like to thank each journalist for the extraordinary work during 2024. Next year is not expected to be easier because of the elections,” Rexha said.
“This year, there have been attacks on journalists which have come from groups of interests, political parties, and members of government. There have been constant attacks and attempts to denigrate the work of journalists but I am happy that this has not affected journalists’ work in the interest of the public,” he added.
This year’s competition included 12 categories of awards with more than 100 applications from journalists in total.
Cornelia Taylor, Acting Head of OSCE Mission in Kosovo, told journalists during the ceremony about their important role in society.
“Journalism plays a fundamental role in upholding the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The core of journalism lies in the fundamental right of freedom, of liberty, but also of truth,” Taylor said.
